The date is June 16th, and we’re at Kent’s legendary Brands Hatch motor racing circuit, hosting race one - round 8 of the 2019 Ducati Performance TriOptions Cup. David Shoebridge, from team Old Garage Legends does his best to make the most of a ‘typically British’ day of wet and windy weather. After a fantastic start, achieving an impressive fifth place early on in the race, David AKA ‘Shouey’ held a solid pace until the inevitable rain saw the red flag halt proceedings.
Upon returning to the track, with fresh dry tyres – Shouey battled a close 6th place position until he was caught off-guard by the safety car, costing him precious seconds and pushing him back into a tougher 8th place finish for the day - a self-confessed ‘School boy error’ by the 31 year old West Sussex born rider.
Sunday saw a dry, mostly clear day – with a refreshed team ready and rearing to make up some places in the circuit. After another solid start, quickly gaining to 6th place – Shouey looked calm and collected in his first couple of laps, and set to keep up with the equally impressive lap times displayed by the top 5 – but just ‘keeping up’ simply isn’t enough in the world of motor sport.
After some unfortunate, albeit beneficial crashes from two of the fastest riders in the top 5 positions – Shouey quickly found himself fourth, and looking to seize the opportunity for his first ever top three finish, and boy did we see some heart in the process. Lap ten staged a hard-fought battle between David, and Boast Plumbing & Salus Approved Inspectors team rider Sam Middlemas - putting him through his paces.
After an impressive and audacious outside move at Dingle Dell, we saw Shouey regain third place - managing to hold out until the chequered flag for a place at the podium. A huge achievement for both David and the Old Garage legends team and a massive congratulations from all of us at My Top Trumps, we can’t wait to see what’s next to come!
